Summer Travel Shouldn’t Leave You Aching

One conversation I have with patients every summer goes something like this:

“I had such a great vacation…but my back has been hurting ever since we got home.”

Or maybe it’s your neck that feels stiff after a long drive. Your shoulders are tight from carrying luggage, or your knees are reminding you just how much walking you did on vacation.

If you’ve ever come home from a trip feeling like you need another vacation just to recover, you’re certainly not alone.

Summer travel is wonderful, but it can be hard on your body.

Why Travel Can Leave You Feeling Stiff

Long hours in the car or on an airplane, unfamiliar beds, carrying heavy bags, and spending more time on your feet can all contribute to aches and pains.

You may notice:

● Neck and shoulder tension

● Lower back pain

● Sore hips or knees

● Headaches

● Fatigue

● Stiff muscles

Sometimes those symptoms disappear after a day or two. Other times, they linger much longer than expected.

Looking Beyond the Pain

When someone comes into our office after traveling, we don’t just ask where it hurts.

We want to understand how your whole body is responding.

Are you sleeping well?

Have you been feeling more stressed?

Are you having headaches?

Do you feel tired even after getting home?

Has your pain kept you from getting back into your normal routine?

The answers to those questions help us create a treatment plan that’s personalized to your needs.

How Acupuncture May Help After Travel

Many patients include acupuncture in their recovery after vacations because it may help support the body’s natural healing process.

Patients often seek care for concerns such as:

● Neck and back pain

● Muscle tension

● Joint discomfort

● Headaches

● Fatigue

● Stress from travel

● Stiffness after long periods of sitting

Whether you’re preparing for a trip or recovering afterward, acupuncture may help you feel more comfortable and get back to enjoying everyday life.

A Gentle Reminder

Vacations are meant to create memories—not leave you in pain.

If you’ve been putting off taking care of those lingering aches because you thought they’d eventually go away, consider giving your body the support it deserves.

Our goal is to help you move more comfortably so you can enjoy every season—and every adventure—that comes your way.
